Halloween 2012

We love making our costumes.   Here is a recap of our Halloween effort to make less waste.

My son was a Monster Hunter.  A bow was made from odd pieces found at reCREATE.  The quiver for his arrows was a cardboard tube, that we wrapped in scrap fabric.  The arrows were made from a piece of bamboo and cardboard.  The cardboard sword - the handle is from an old trophy!  The shirt got an original design iron-on transfer.  I only agreed to this if he agreed to wear the shirt after Halloween.
My daughter was a Zombie Vampire.  I know, I know,  vampires are immortal.   She is 7, and this is what she wanted to be.  Her cape was made from fabric picked up at reCREATE.  Underneath the cape she wore everyday clothes.  We did buy Halloween makeup to put on.  It was in plastic (ugh) but, we were able to get all the colors needed in one small package and used up most of it.

We used reusable shopping bags for their trick or treating.  We still got more candy that I would have liked, but the good news is that I found some recipes on what to do with leftover candy.  So we will freeze some of the candy, and bring it out when making a special dessert.

We also toasted the pumpkin seeds with a tad of butter, chili powder, a dash of garlic powder and salt.  Beked them for twenty minutes at 350 degrees.  Delicious!
